On August 12, driven by AI optimism, South Korean stocks rose for the third consecutive trading session on Wednesday, with chip stocks particularly standing out. The South Korean KOSPI index surged over 4%, closing at 6,635 points, marking its highest level since August 5. Han Ji-young, an analyst at Kiwoom Securities, noted that the strong demand for AI infrastructure demonstrated by CoreWeave and Supermicro validates the market's positive expectations for the AI sector, and is expected to improve capital inflows into the semiconductor sector and domestic AI-related stocks in South Korea. Among the heavyweight stocks, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix both rose more than 7%, LG Energy Solution gained approximately 3%, while Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors rose about 2% and 1.5%, respectively.
