ByteDance has recently established a new top-tier department, namely the AI Data and Security Department. This department holds equal status with other prominent departments like Seed, Flow, and Douyin, and is headed by Wang Yinglei. It consolidates several previously scattered AI data departments, including Global Data, DMC (the group's data middleware platform), and AIDP (the AI data platform under Flow). The integration initiative kicked off in early June 2026 and is currently in the midst of refining its organizational structure and optimizing staffing arrangements. The newly formed department represents a large-scale data team that spans from foundational models to business teams. Its primary responsibility is to offer cross-modal data services for all large-scale models within ByteDance, encompassing the entire data production lifecycle. As of the publication of this article, ByteDance has not yet issued a response.
