After two convictions and nearly $1 billion in damages, Meta will once again stand in the defendant's dock in federal court this week. On August 12, a lawsuit jointly filed by four states—California, Colorado, Kentucky, and New Jersey—will initiate jury selection proceedings in the Federal Court in Oakland. The lawsuit accuses Meta's social media platforms of causing harm to minors through addictive design features, seeking damages of up to $1.4 trillion, a figure nearly equivalent to Meta's current total market value and setting a record for the highest claim in global consumer protection litigation.
