On August 6, SoftBank Group revealed in its most recent financial report that it has successfully obtained a $10 billion margin loan, leveraging its equity position in OpenAI as collateral. The preceding day, August 5, SoftBank entered into a two-year loan pact with a consortium of leading financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Mizuho Securities, Apollo Global Management, and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, which acted as the primary arrangers for this financing. SoftBank intends to access the loaned funds within this month. The loan is underwritten by SoftBank Group itself, and the proceeds are earmarked for the general operational needs of the group and its Vision Fund. The loan agreement also includes provisions that, under certain conditions—such as a substantial depreciation in the value of OpenAI's preferred shares—the borrower, SoftBank, will be obligated to furnish additional cash collateral or prepay the loan ahead of schedule.
