On August 5 local time, Google announced personnel changes: Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, will transition to become the chairman of the department and the chief scientist of Alphabet. His deputy, Koray Kavukcuoglu, currently the chief AI architect at Google, will be promoted to senior vice president, taking on most of Hassabis' responsibilities and reporting directly to Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet. Additionally, Google announced that Jeff Dean, the chief scientist who has been with the company for 27 years and has long been involved in shaping Google's AI strategy, will depart. He will co-found a new venture with Google senior researcher Sanjay Ghemawat, dedicated to accelerating exploration and discovery in the fields of machine learning, science, and engineering.
