Google's premier AI team, Google DeepMind, has undergone significant management restructuring. Demis Hassabis, the long-serving CEO, will relinquish his day-to-day management duties and transition to the role of chairman, while also serving as the chief scientist for Google's parent company, Alphabet. Meanwhile, he will continue to lead Isomorphic Labs, Google's AI-driven drug discovery company. This personnel change comes at a critical juncture for Google DeepMind, as the flagship version of its latest Gemini model has yet to be released, sparking concerns within the industry. Additionally, several key figures responsible for the Gemini model, including Jeff Dean, have also departed. Koray Kavukcuoglu, the current Chief Technology Officer, will take over day-to-day management responsibilities as Senior Vice President, reporting directly to Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
