On August 5, Business Insider reported that due to a surge in demand for AI models, artificial intelligence startup Anthropic is forming a team to design its own AI chips. Job postings and company statements indicate that Anthropic is recruiting engineers to customize chips for its Claude AI model. A company spokesperson publicly confirmed for the first time that Anthropic is establishing an in-house chip team to design dedicated chips for Claude. The spokesperson stated that Anthropic will co-design hardware and AI models to enable Claude to 'run faster and more efficiently at the scale our customers need.' However, Anthropic will adopt a 'multi-chip strategy,' with hardware from Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google, NVIDIA, and AMD remaining a crucial part of its efforts to scale computational power.
