Based on media testing and observations of Microsoft Office software, it has been found that even users who have subscribed to Microsoft 365 are not spared from persistent 'Upgrade Your Plan' banner ads. These ads appear prominently above the title bar in applications like Word and Excel upon launch, aggressively promoting Copilot AI's value-added services. The banner, adorned with a diamond-shaped icon, cannot be manually dismissed by users. Clicking on it opens a new window detailing the current subscription plan and suggesting upgrades to other personal or enterprise plans. Some users are prompted to upgrade to Microsoft 365 Premium for additional AI credits, which comes with a monthly fee of $19.99, though certain users may be offered a discounted rate of $9.99 for the first month. This strategy has triggered widespread discontent among users, as evidenced by the numerous complaints flooding the official feedback platforms for Excel and Word. At present, Microsoft has not yet issued a statement regarding whether it intends to revise this design approach.
