OpenAI is actively entering the advertising market dominated by Google and Meta, introducing advertising in ChatGPT since February this year and gradually expanding its scope. However, its current advertising products are still in their early stages, with incomplete tools and significant functional gaps compared to Google and Meta. Despite ChatGPT having approximately 1 billion monthly active users, OpenAI projects its advertising revenue to reach around $2.4 billion by 2026 and soar to approximately $100 billion by 2030. Nevertheless, this forecast has been met with skepticism from EMARKETER analysts, who consider the assumptions overly optimistic. OpenAI is proceeding cautiously in expanding its advertising business, always prioritizing user experience. Currently, ads are only available in seven countries. Meanwhile, the company is accelerating the iteration and improvement of its advertising platform, introducing features such as pay-per-click and conversion tracking, as well as launching ad management tools and geographic targeting capabilities. ChatGPT's ads can be displayed based on user conversation content, and some advertisers believe this model offers unique advantages. However, they also need to adjust their strategies to better focus on prompts. Currently, advertising data is not detailed enough, and some advertisers are also looking forward to expanding ads to other OpenAI products.
