Neill Blomkamp, renowned for his direction of the critically acclaimed film District 9, has now made his foray into the realm of AI-generated cinema with his first short film, Yinbing. Spanning roughly 13 minutes, this film was crafted entirely using ByteDance's innovative Seedance 2.0 model. Blomkamp meticulously guided the creation process, offering frame-by-frame instructions through textual prompts. Leveraging the likenesses and voice authorizations of 32 real-life actors, and with the involvement of film concept designers, Yinbing presents a unique cinematic experience. The short film adopts a documentary-style narrative, delving into the tale of a deceased U.S. Army Aviation 'Apache' attack helicopter pilot who becomes part of a clandestine military super-soldier program. This theme echoes the director's previous forays into science fiction. Looking ahead, Blomkamp has ambitions to produce a feature-length film using the same AI-driven approach. To this end, he has established Barley Studios, an AI-centric film studio, marking a significant departure from his previous venture, the traditional film production company Oats Studios.
