On July 19, the Earthquake Artificial Intelligence Forum, a significant event within the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, convened in Shanghai. The forum centered on the profound integration of artificial intelligence (AI) with earthquake prevention and disaster reduction efforts, presenting the latest advancements in scientific research and practical applications of AI technology in this critical area. The China Earthquake Administration officially released the “AI + Earthquake Prevention and Disaster Reduction” Action Plan (2026–2028), which delineates nine pivotal tasks to be undertaken over the next three years. These tasks encompass the development of intelligent earthquake monitoring and processing systems, as well as AI-driven earthquake early warning technologies. The plan envisions the establishment of a comprehensive AI technology system that integrates “data, models, platforms, and applications” into a cohesive whole. It aims to bolster the foundational data infrastructure, achieve breakthroughs in core technologies, and create a robust “AI + Earthquake” support platform. By 2028, AI technology is anticipated to significantly bolster earthquake prevention and disaster reduction operations, thereby cementing China's leading edge in this field.
