On July 19, the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, which featured a High-Level Conference on Global AI Governance, was convened in Shanghai (having commenced on July 18). At the conference, numerous representatives from governmental bodies convened to deliberate on the challenges inherent in global AI governance, the imperative of ensuring inclusive and equitable access to technology, and strategies for mitigating security risks. China advocated for robust support to the United Nations' Global AI Governance Dialogue and the International AI Scientific Panel, urging them to take a proactive stance, deliver an increased array of international public goods, aid Global South nations in bolstering their capacity-building efforts, and foster the creation of a universally accepted framework for global AI governance. This initiative underscored China's commitment as a major global player and garnered affirmative feedback from all stakeholders.
