On July 17, at the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, Alibaba 1688 announced that it will launch the UTP (Universal Transaction Protocol) by the end of this month. With the deepening application of AI in the B2B sector, transactions are evolving into an A2A model, where the buyer's AI directly interfaces with the factory's AI to automatically complete transactions. However, the lack of a unified transaction protocol among different AI systems hinders the large-scale development of A2A. The introduction of UTP aims to establish a unified transaction infrastructure, breaking down B2B transactions into six standard actions: sourcing, inquiry, ordering, payment, fulfillment, and dispute resolution, providing an open standard for interconnectivity in global trade in the A2A era. Currently, 20% of procurement demands on 1688 are initiated by AI, and this proportion is expected to reach 80% in two years.
