Former Huawei 'prodigy' Li Bojie has sparked widespread discussion after publicly voicing his dissatisfaction with his DeepSeek interview. As an alumnus of the University of Science and Technology of China's elite youth program, Li boasts a Ph.D. in computer science and has an impressive track record of publishing numerous papers at top-tier academic conferences. In 2019, he was handpicked for Huawei's prestigious 'Prodigy' program, a testament to his exceptional talent.
In 2023, Li bid farewell to Huawei to embark on an entrepreneurial journey. He founded a startup and briefly served as the chief scientist at Pine AI, though he has since moved on. He explained that his decision to leave Pine AI was driven by a strategic shift in his research focus towards foundational models, with the ambition to delve into research that pushes the boundaries of intelligence. However, his departure did not go unnoticed. Du Jun, co-founder of Huobi, accused him of lacking contractual integrity, alleging that Li had 'taken the money and run.'
In response, Li set the record straight. He clarified that out of the $1.5 million investment promised, only $500,000 had been received, leaving the company in a precarious financial position due to the unfulfilled funding commitment. He also addressed his previous exit from Metagent, attributing it to family reasons and regulatory challenges surrounding Web3 projects. Li emphasized that he had fulfilled all his responsibilities before departing and that subsequent projects had steered clear of any competitive overlap with his former endeavors.
Furthermore, Li made it clear that he was not a founder of Pine AI and pointed out that the company's operations and product growth continue to thrive.
