The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) has officially launched the inaugural phase of its targeted campaign, named “Clear and Bright: Crackdown on AI Application Disorder,” aiming to tackle the prevailing disorder in AI applications. This initiative involves deploying specific tasks to address the chaos and establishing a dedicated reporting mechanism. To date, the campaign has yielded significant outcomes: over 14,000 non-compliant AI products have been addressed, more than 6 million pieces of illegal and non-compliant information have been purged, over 26,000 non-compliant accounts have been managed, more than 1,300 non-compliant AI products have been removed from circulation, and 9 non-compliant open-source datasets have been taken offline.
Local cyberspace regulatory bodies have proactively embraced their regional oversight duties, implementing effective measures to bolster supervision. Leading website platforms have similarly stepped up to fulfill their primary management obligations, enhancing content moderation efforts.
Looking ahead, the campaign will transition into its second phase, with a heightened focus on combating the creation and dissemination of false information through AI technologies. This phase will involve stepping up investigations and penalties, tightening control over crucial operational links, and encouraging platforms to elevate their AI governance capabilities. The overarching goal is to preserve a transparent and vibrant online ecosystem while fostering the sound development of artificial intelligence.
