As per reports, OpenAI has put forth a proposal to relinquish a 5% stake to the U.S. government. This move aims to garner policy backing and ease regulatory constraints. In March of this year, the company successfully concluded a funding round worth $122 billion, attaining a post-investment valuation of $852 billion. Given this valuation, the 5% stake is estimated to be worth around $42.6 billion. OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, holds the view that enabling the public to partake in the economic advantages stemming from AI development represents the most effective approach to tackling the ramifications of AI. He has also recommended that other U.S.-based AI companies follow suit and implement comparable strategies. At present, the proposal remains in the initial stages of discussion, with specific particulars still up for determination.
