At the routine press briefing held on the 2nd, He Yadong, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce, provided an overview of the outcomes from the inaugural session of the China-EU Trade and Investment Consultation Mechanism. He highlighted that this mechanism represents a newly instituted platform for regular dialogue within the China-EU economic and trade sphere, with both parties agreeing to convene one to two ministerial-level meetings each year. China has extended an invitation to Valdis Dombrovskis, the Executive Vice President of the European Commission responsible for An Economy that Works for People and Trade, to visit China this autumn for the second regular session.

During the initial meeting, both sides concentrated on fostering a more balanced trade relationship across three key domains: Firstly, in emerging sectors, both parties committed to expanding collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI) and green transformation initiatives. Secondly, in potential areas of growth, they pledged to explore untapped cooperation opportunities within the service trade sector. Thirdly, in addressing problematic areas, both sides agreed to gradually resolve each other's concerns through consultations on market access.

Furthermore, both parties reached a consensus on redefining the economic and trade relations between China and the EU, aspiring to become stable and mutually beneficial key trading partners. This strategic realignment is poised to enhance the confidence of Chinese and European businesses, injecting greater certainty and positive momentum into the economic development trajectories of China, Europe, and the global economy at large.
