Paul Meade, Apple's Vice President of Hardware Engineering for the Visual Products Group, will leave the company next week to join OpenAI's hardware division, where he will be responsible for developing a new product line of AI-native devices. Meade, who joined Apple in 2010, has been involved in the hardware development of the iPhone and iPad. Since 2017, he has overseen the hardware engineering for Vision Pro and led the project for screenless AI smart glasses. His departure is linked to Apple's senior leadership restructuring. With John Ternus set to take over as CEO and chip chief Johny Srouji promoted to Chief Hardware Officer, the entire hardware engineering division has undergone significant reorganization, leading to reduced responsibilities and demotions for several vice presidents. Meade's exit will create a critical talent gap in Apple's AR/VR hardware R&D.
