The United States has proposed that the European Union join an artificial intelligence partnership to jointly establish an alliance for safeguarding the security of semiconductor supply chains. The draft statement highlights that, given the importance of the physical pillars of AI, such as critical minerals, energy, computing, and semiconductor manufacturing, all parties agree that the future of AI should be built on a foundation of trust and collaboration, economic security, innovation, and fair competition. According to sources familiar with the matter, EU member state ambassadors were briefed on the proposal this week. However, some member states are concerned that this proposal may serve as a means for the United States to promote its own AI ecosystem.
