Research from SignalFire reveals that overall hiring at major tech firms has declined by 25% compared to 2019, but engineering hiring has only dropped by 11%. Engineers now account for 55% of new hires in 2025, up significantly from 46% in 2019. Startups also have a stronger demand for engineers, with the total number of engineers hired in 2025 increasing by 7% compared to 2019.
