On June 25, Wired magazine disclosed, citing sources close to the situation, that the Trump administration has recently exhibited a heightened willingness to engage in dialogue with Anthropic. Specifically, during the discussions about re-releasing the Claude Fable 5 AI model, the company's CEO, Dario Amodei, was replaced by his co-founder, Tom Brown. Brown, in contrast to Amodei, is perceived as less idiosyncratic and is known for his ability to communicate effectively. At present, the U.S. government has not yet relaxed its export controls on Anthropic. On June 12, its most advanced model was taken offline after the U.S. National Security Agency confirmed the existence of techniques that could circumvent safety protocols and unlock the enhanced capabilities of the restricted model, known as 'Mythos.' Nevertheless, the U.S. government has held several discussions with Anthropic in recent days. Brown and Sarah Heck, Anthropic's head of public policy, are now the primary contacts, a development that has been seen as positive by government officials.
