Recently, many developers have reported a decline in the capabilities of the GPT-5.5 model, with increased time required to process tasks, leading some developers to switch back to older models such as GPT-5.3-Codex or GPT-5.4. In response, the Codex team announced that it will take some older models offline starting June 2 and continue to recommend that developers use cutting-edge flagship models such as GPT-5.5. Previously, Codex lead Tibo confirmed that the team had identified and fixed two issues causing the decline in GPT-5.5's capabilities within Codex and had reset usage quotas. Despite this, some developers remain concerned about the stability of GPT-5.5, noting that it frequently makes errors in long tasks and fails to follow workflows.
