Apple is engaged in internal discussions regarding the approach to permit the listing of apps that incorporate AI Agents on the App Store, while ensuring compliance with current review guidelines. Presently, developers are increasingly integrating AI features into their applications; however, apps featuring AI Agents encounter obstacles during the listing process. The primary challenges in the review process are related to Agentic Coding and Vibe Coding apps. Apple officially restricts the direct programming of apps that generate other apps on iPhones and iPads, a rule that frequently leads to these products being delayed or rejected during the review phase. Easing these restrictions could potentially compromise the integrity of the review process, circumvent security evaluations, and adversely affect App Store revenue.
To tackle this issue, Apple is considering a middle-ground approach by developing a system that guarantees the adherence of relevant apps to privacy and security standards. Nevertheless, it is likely that highly capable Agentic AI systems, which require extensive access to system resources, will still be barred from direct deployment on iPhones.
