On May 12, Beijing time, The Wall Street Journal reported that Elon Musk's AI model, Grok, is significantly lagging behind rapidly growing competitors in the market. Its parent company, SpaceX, has reached an agreement to lease massive computing power to rival Anthropic. This move has raised questions about whether Grok can catch up. Since its launch two years ago, Grok has attracted millions of users by integrating with Musk's social platform X and offering controversial features. However, the latest data shows that its growth has plateaued. According to analytics firm AppMagic, Grok's downloads dropped to approximately 8.3 million in April this year, a significant decline from over 20 million in January. Meanwhile, SpaceX's computing power leasing agreement with Anthropic involves the Colossus 1 data center in Memphis, Tennessee. The center is equipped with over 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs, with a computing capacity exceeding 300 megawatts, and is expected to generate billions of dollars in annual revenue for Musk.
