Towards the end of last year, OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, devised a strategy to spin off the company's robotics and consumer hardware divisions. The aim was to enable these divisions to function autonomously, thereby promoting their expansion without hindering the group's primary operations. Sources close to the situation revealed that, according to the initial plan, the newly established subsidiaries would have the autonomy to secure funding and manage their operations independently. Nevertheless, following an evaluation, OpenAI ultimately discarded the plan, concluding that these new entities would still need to be integrated into the group's consolidated financial statements and would not be able to attain true financial autonomy.
