Meta has finalized the acquisition of Assured Robot Intelligence (ARI), a startup specializing in robotics AI. The ARI team is now set to become part of Meta's Superintelligence Lab, where they will work in tandem with the Robotics Studio team to propel the research, development, and deployment of next-generation humanoid robot technology. This strategic move is designed to bridge Meta's existing gaps in robotics AI and secure an early position in the burgeoning humanoid robot market.

ARI's forte lies in crafting foundational AI models specifically tailored for robotics. Upon joining Meta, the team will concentrate on refining AI models to better suit robotic applications, thereby plugging Meta's technological voids and expediting R&D efforts in the humanoid robot domain. Notably, Meta had previously ramped up its capital expenditure budget for 2026, signaling a shift in focus towards merging AI with embodied robotic intelligence.

ARI was co-founded by Xiaolong Wang and Lerrel Pinto. Wang, an alumnus of South China Agricultural University (SCAU) with a bachelor's degree, is renowned for his expertise in enabling robots to comprehend the real world and autonomously acquire operational skills. Lerrel Pinto, a preeminent scholar in large-scale robotic learning, is committed to developing cost-effective, open-source robotic platforms.
