After Anthropic rejected a request from the U.S. Department of Defense for authorization for sensitive uses, Google signed a new agreement with the Pentagon, allowing nearly unrestricted access to its AI tools across its classified networks for all 'lawful purposes.' This move means the Defense Department can more broadly deploy Google's AI in classified environments for intelligence analysis, decision support, and other scenarios. Previously, over 600 Google employees jointly signed a letter to CEO Sundar Pichai, urging him to refuse permission for the U.S. government to use Google's AI technology in classified military operations.
