According to sources cited by The Information, OpenAI has agreed to pay chip startup Cerebras over $20 billion over the next three years to use its chip-powered servers and may acquire equity in the company. Previously, OpenAI had agreed to purchase up to 750 megawatts of computing capacity from Cerebras over three years in a deal valued at over $10 billion. The new deal is twice the size of the previous agreement, highlighting the growing industry demand for AI inference computing power. OpenAI has also agreed to provide Cerebras with approximately $1 billion to fund the development of data centers for running AI products, with total expenditures potentially reaching $30 billion over the next three years, possibly converting into warrants for up to a 10% stake in Cerebras. Cerebras may announce more details about its collaboration with OpenAI as soon as the disclosure date of the agreement and plans to go public in the second quarter of this year.
