According to The Information, in a bid to keep pace with its competitors in the AI sector, Apple has enrolled nearly 200 Siri engineers in a multi-week AI programming bootcamp. The objective is to equip them with the skills to utilize AI tools for coding assistance. The goal is to bolster the team's engineering prowess in generative AI and pave the way for integrating more sophisticated AI functionalities into iOS 27. Post-bootcamp, only 60 engineers will be selected to form the core development team, while another 60 will transition into performance evaluation roles. This training regimen emphasizes the practical application of generative AI in programming, encompassing operations with the Claude Code tool, prompt optimization techniques, code debugging, and refactoring processes. It also places a strong emphasis on adhering to privacy compliance standards.
On the technical front, Apple is integrating Google Gemini's large model technology to enhance its Apple Intelligence model. This integration will empower the new iteration of Siri to execute multi-step instructions and deliver a conversational experience akin to ChatGPT. Apple is set to officially announce this upgrade at WWDC 2026, which is scheduled to commence on June 8.
