On April 15, 2026, Google rolled out an update for the desktop version of the Chrome browser, unveiling a new 'Skill Library' feature for Gemini. This innovative addition enables users to save their frequently used AI tasks as 'skills', facilitating one-click reuse across any website. With this feature, users can effortlessly store useful prompts generated in Gemini as skills, which can then be invoked with a single click, eliminating the need for repetitive input. For instance, a prompt designed to check the ingredients of skincare products on a shopping site can be saved and subsequently reused with just one click on other pages.
Early test users have already embraced this feature in various scenarios, including health, shopping, and productivity. They have leveraged it to calculate protein content in recipes, generate product comparisons, and extract key information from documents. To save a skill, users can simply access their chat logs in the Chrome sidebar and store the desired prompt. Invoking a skill is equally straightforward; users can either type a slash followed by the skill name or click a plus icon. Skills can be executed on the current tab or selected tabs, providing flexibility and convenience.
Furthermore, Google has preloaded a collection of 'library skills' tailored for common tasks, with the added benefit of supporting personalized adjustments to cater to individual user preferences.
