In the latest edition of 'Power On,' Mark Gurman revealed that John Giannandrea, Apple's former AI chief who joined from Google in 2018, will officially conclude his 'sabbatical' at Apple this week. According to Gurman, Giannandrea's departure became inevitable after Apple significantly reduced his AI responsibilities in March 2025. This personnel change is primarily attributed to Apple Intelligence falling short of expectations, multiple delays in the upgraded Siri, and Apple's inadequate response in the generative AI sector. At that time, Apple directly revoked Giannandrea's oversight of AI teams including Siri and robotics.
