Recently, a consortium of ten departments, spearheaded by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, jointly rolled out the "Provisional Measures for the Ethical Review and Management of Artificial Intelligence Technology." These measures are designed to standardize the ethical oversight of AI technological endeavors, fostering an environment of equitable, fair, secure, and conscientious innovation and advancement within the sector. Specifically, the measures call for the creation and refinement of an ethical standards framework for AI technology, encourage the development of innovative review methodologies, and emphasize the importance of leveraging technological tools to preemptively mitigate ethical risks. In doing so, they offer explicit directives for the ethical review and management of AI technology across China, aligning with global best practices and cultural expectations.
