On April 8, 2026, Beijing Time, Elon Musk is seeking to remove OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and President Greg Brockman from their positions through legal means, aiming to prevent OpenAI's transition into a for-profit company. Musk stated in court documents that the goal of his lawsuit is to reverse OpenAI's for-profit transformation and restructuring, restore its status as a nonprofit research institution, and seek a court order that, if he wins and is awarded damages, the compensation be directed to OpenAI's charitable division.
