Recently, Cathie Wood, founder of ARK Invest, shared her views on AI development trends and the commercialization of autonomous taxis in an interview with HSBC Private Bank. She believes that AI has the most far-reaching application prospects in the healthcare sector. By combining blood testing technology with AI, diseases such as cancer can be diagnosed at an earlier stage, potentially significantly extending human lifespan. Wood pointed out that major pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies are facing a patent cliff, with approximately $300 billion worth of drug patents set to expire in the next five years, representing an underestimated innovation opportunity. According to ARK Invest's research, AI technology is expected to reduce the average cost of bringing a new drug to market from $2.4 billion to $600 million, primarily due to a decline in clinical trial failure rates. Additionally, Wood believes that autonomous taxis have entered a phase of commercial explosion, with the market size expected to reach $8 trillion to $10 trillion in the next five to ten years. She also mentioned that the cost of AI training is declining at an annual rate of approximately 75%, while the cost of inference is falling even faster, with annual declines ranging from 85% to 98%. The rapid decline in costs will drive broader adoption of AI.
