Lately, the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Council of the European Union have collectively ramped up their regulation of generative artificial intelligence. They have specifically barred their news and communications departments from incorporating videos and images that are solely generated by AI into official external communications. When queried by the media, these three institutions clarified that, in light of the risk of misinformation stemming from the dissemination of 'deepfake' content, they have established internal policies. These policies mandate that visual materials released externally must be grounded in authentic footage, rather than being wholly fabricated images.
