On March 27, during the “Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Technology and Innovation Forum” at the 2026 Zhongguancun Forum Annual Conference, Chen Zurong, Deputy Director of Macao’s Economic and Technological Development Bureau, highlighted three major advantages that position Macao to support the national “AI Plus” initiative. First, Macao features world-class leisure and tourism infrastructure, with visitor numbers projected to exceed 40 million by 2025. This provides fertile ground for testing and deploying AI applications in real-world settings. Second, Macao is uniquely positioned to act as a vital bridge between mainland Chinese enterprises and Portuguese-speaking countries, leveraging the benefits of “One Country, Two Systems” and its role as a platform for China-Portugal cooperation. Third, Macao plans to utilize government-led funds to attract long-term investment, expedite the development of technology R&D industrial parks, and establish innovation hubs for digital technology, biomedicine, and other cutting-edge sectors.
