Meta's plan to launch new Ray-Ban AI smart glasses equipped with displays in the EU has hit a snag, facing obstacles not only from supply constraints but also from EU battery and AI regulations. Currently, these glasses are only available in the US market. According to EU regulations, by 2027, devices sold in the region must be equipped with removable batteries, posing a challenge for manufacturers. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that Meta is in discussions with the EU regarding the battery regulations and is seeking an exemption. Previously, Meta had temporarily halted its market expansion to the UK, France, Italy, and Canada due to limited inventory of display glasses, focusing instead on processing US orders.
