On March 23, Liu Liehong, the Director of the National Data Administration, revealed at the China Development Forum's 2026 Annual Conference that the National Data Administration has officially declared 2026 as the 'Year of Unleashing Data Value'. This initiative aims to harness the power of data to fuel innovation in artificial intelligence (AI). To achieve this, six key strategies will be implemented, encompassing the enhancement and expansion of infrastructure, as well as achieving breakthroughs in data annotation. The overarching objective is to develop a substantial number of high-quality datasets that cater to the training requirements of AI, tackle industry-specific hurdles, and foster concurrent advancements in both the volume and caliber of data provision. Ultimately, this will expedite the profound integration of AI with the real economy.
