Marketed as Japan's most extensive high-performance AI system, it was discovered by the tech community following its release that the model is, in fact, entirely built upon DeepSeek-V3, developed by China's DeepSeek company. The only modifications made were minor adjustments to accommodate Japanese data. In its promotional materials, Rakuten neglected to acknowledge DeepSeek's contribution and even went so far as to delete the original license files. It was only after being exposed that Rakuten took corrective measures, an action that has since sparked widespread public condemnation.
