The US Federal Court ruled that Perplexity AI must cease using its Comet web browser plugin to shop on behalf of consumers on Amazon's online marketplace. Amazon sued Perplexity for computer fraud, alleging that the Comet plugin failed to disclose its activities when shopping on behalf of real users and refused to comply with cease-and-desist requests. The ruling also requires Perplexity to stop accessing password-protected portions of Amazon's systems and destroy any copies of Amazon data it has obtained. The implementation of the ruling has been delayed by one week to allow Perplexity to file an appeal.
