A Russian research institute has recently pioneered an artificial intelligence (AI) system designed to swiftly analyze CT scans, aiding doctors in the early diagnosis of breast cancer. Developed collaboratively by the Saint Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (ITMO) and the Almazov National Medical Research Center, this system leverages a sophisticated neural network. Following extensive training, the neural network is adept at automatically processing patients' CT images, accurately highlighting areas indicative of tumors for subsequent review by medical professionals. This innovative technology not only slashes the time required for image analysis to a mere few minutes but also significantly diminishes the clinical misdiagnosis rate by around 20%, marking a substantial advancement in early cancer detection.
