On March 4, during the 2026 sessions of the National People's Congress, NPC Deputy Lei Jun put forth a series of insightful proposals. He posited that humanoid robots are poised to emerge as the next groundbreaking innovation, following in the footsteps of computers, smartphones, and new energy vehicles, and will mark a pivotal trajectory for future industrial growth. Presently, with the relentless progression of general artificial intelligence technology, China has secured a pioneering edge in the realm of humanoid robot technology. Nevertheless, the widespread engineering deployment of humanoid robots continues to encounter a multitude of hurdles, including process instability, exorbitant hardware expenses, and restricted workshop workstation capabilities. These obstacles have confined humanoid robots to the 'novice' phase, with no significant large-scale deployment achieved to date. To overcome these challenges, Lei Jun recommended: expediting the resolution of engineering implementation barriers to foster large-scale mass production; broadening the application scenarios within smart manufacturing to enhance the utilization rate of humanoid robots; and bolstering the development of safety standards to pave the way for the extensive adoption of humanoid robots.
