According to sources familiar with the matter who spoke to The Wall Street Journal, Thrive Capital, led by Josh Kushner, invested at least $1 billion in OpenAI at a $285 billion valuation last December. This valuation is approximately one-third of OpenAI's target valuation for its current funding round. As part of an investment arrangement made early last year, this deal grants Thrive Capital the right to inject capital at a preferential price, which some individuals describe as an exercised call option. Previously, the business magazine Colossus had reported that Thrive held such an arrangement.
