Meta has recently revised its policy concerning third-party general-purpose AI chatbots on WhatsApp, mandating that developers in certain regions pay fees according to the volume of messages exchanged. Earlier, Meta had declared that, commencing January 15, 2026, these types of bots would be barred from delivering services via the WhatsApp Business API, a move that would impact numerous providers, including ChatGPT. Subsequently, facing pressure from regulatory bodies such as those in Italy, Meta permitted these bots to continue functioning but introduced fees. For instance, in Italy, starting from February 16, a charge of $0.0691 will be levied for each non-template response.
