On Thursday (Eastern Time), Demis Hassabis, a globally recognized leader in AI and the CEO of Google DeepMind, remarked in a podcast that the disparity between China’s AI models and those developed in the U.S. and the West might amount to just a few months. He highlighted that over the past year, developers including DeepSeek and China’s so-called “AI Six Tigers” have launched numerous advanced AI models, achieving performance levels on par with their U.S. equivalents in key benchmark tests. Furthermore, Chinese tech behemoths such as Alibaba, Baidu, and Tencent have also ramped up their investments in the AI sector.
