On January 12 (local time), Liz Kendall, the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology in the UK, released a statement concerning artificial intelligence, social media, and cybersecurity. She emphasized that women and children should not have to endure a life of fear, worried about the possibility of their images being sexually manipulated through technological means. Kendall disclosed that Ofcom, the UK's communications regulator, has initiated a formal investigation into the X platform. This investigation aims to evaluate whether the platform is adhering to the Online Safety Act. Should the X platform neglect to implement suitable measures, it could be subjected to fines reaching millions of dollars or a penalty equivalent to 10% of the company's global revenue. In severe instances, Ofcom has the authority to seek a court order to bar UK users from accessing the site.
