Following Merriam-Webster's selection of "slop" as its 2025 Word of the Year, Microsoft's Chief Executive Officer, Satya Nadella, penned a blog post. In this post, he called upon both the tech industry and the general public to reassess their perspectives on generative AI in 2026. Nadella expressed his hope that people would cease perceiving AI merely as a producer of "slop" or as a "job-stealing device" prevalent on the internet. Instead, he encouraged them to view AI as a "bicycle for the mind"—a supportive framework or "scaffold" that boosts human cognitive abilities and taps into unrealized potential, rather than serving as a substitute for human capabilities.
