According to SemiAnalysis, a research entity specializing in the semiconductor and AI sectors, AI firm Anthropic is set to directly acquire approximately 1 million TPU v7p 'Ironwood' AI chips from Broadcom. These chips will be locally installed in Anthropic's own data centers to establish an independent AI computing infrastructure. Broadcom's Chief Executive Officer has verified the substantial $21 billion order, which encompasses rack-level AI systems built around the TPU v7p. These systems will be bolstered by infrastructure from companies like TeraWulf, while Fluidstack will oversee on-site deployment and operational management. Although Google retains intellectual property rights over the TPU architecture, in this deal, it will solely act as an IP licensor, stepping aside from its roles as a hardware provider or cloud service intermediary. This strategic move diminishes Anthropic's reliance on Google Cloud and bolsters its autonomy in model training, data security, and cost management.
