After it was uncovered that students at South Korea's Yonsei University had engaged in collective cheating using AI during an online midterm exam, another instance of mass cheating emerged during an online final exam at Seoul National University. On December 21, Seoul National University made the announcement that it was canceling the exam results of the course in question. This particular cheating incident took place in a remote general education course, which was provided by the College of Natural Sciences to students fulfilling their military service obligations. Seoul National University is now in the process of devising university-wide strategies to tackle the "widespread cheating issue." These measures encompass making in-person exams the standard mode of assessment, opting for open-book exams and assignments as substitutes for online exams when in-person exams are not viable, and formulating a university-wide policy on the utilization of AI tools. This policy will mandate instructors to clearly outline the rules regarding AI tool usage in their course syllabi.
