On December 10 (local time), Google DeepMind made an announcement regarding the further strengthening of its collaboration with the UK government. The company revealed that by 2026, it will set up its inaugural automated laboratory in the UK. This lab will be dedicated to materials science research, with a particular focus on developing materials essential for sectors like batteries and semiconductors. The overarching goal is to significantly reduce the time needed for the discovery of new materials.
At this laboratory, scientific experiments will be carried out by robots, thereby minimizing human involvement. Moreover, Google DeepMind also disclosed that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the UK's AI Safety Institute. The primary focus of this partnership will be on fundamental safety research in the field of AI.
